The Final Trailer For ‘The Idol’ Is Out
Ahead of its highly anticipated premiere on June 4, HBO has unveiled the final trailer for the Sam Levinson-directed series, The Idol.
Starring Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn, a rising pop star determined to reclaim her fame after canceling her previous tour, and featuring The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) as Tedros, a nightclub owner and enigmatic cult leader, the show promises a captivating narrative. In the trailer, Tedros declares, “You’re the American dream… Rags to riches. Trailers to mansions. You are f*cking Jocelyn,” setting the stage for a thrilling journey.
As the trailer progresses, an ominous voice suggests that Jocelyn has been manipulated, with Tesfaye’s character hauntingly laughing. “You’re not a human being. You’re a star,” he utters, leaving viewers with a sense of intrigue and suspense.
The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria. Tesfaye also serves as a co-creator of the show alongside Levinson and Reza Fahim.
The Idol premiered at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival, receiving a standing ovation lasting five minutes from the audience. However, following its private debut, critical reviews were less favorable, with Rolling Stone describing the series as “nasty, brutish, much longer than it is, and way, way worse than you’d have anticipated.” As the series becomes available for streaming on HBO Max starting June 4, audiences will have the opportunity to form their own opinions on this highly anticipated production.
