Roberto Cavalli Resort 2024
Fausto Puglisi, in his resort collection, paid homage to the Roberto Cavalli perspective while referencing a wide range of inspirations, from pop icons Taylor Swift and Madonna to Succession’s Shiv Roy and even the TV show The White Lotus. However, his true driving force remained the Roberto Cavalli aesthetic.
Approaching the collection like a movie director, Puglisi envisioned different women as characters, spanning generations and cultures, while maintaining the signature style of the director. Drawing from Cavalli’s iconic elements, such as 1970s bell-bottoms, exquisite leather craftsmanship, animal prints, and delicate chiffon, Puglisi created a lineup that exuded excess yet maintained an effortless appeal.
The collection predominantly featured separates, with classic shapes infused with the distinctive Cavalli touch. Trench coats in seasonal prints, including a reissued lemon and snake archival artwork, stood out, as did a remarkable coat crafted from diagonally patched leather pieces, complemented by a men’s companion jacket. A must-have chocolate brown leather bomber and ruffled cotton skirts in the season’s prints added to the mix. Flared trousers and Prince of Wales plaid tailoring in beige tones, adorned with cheetah print lining, completed the ensemble.
When it came to evening wear, Puglisi unleashed his imagination to elevate the visual language of the house. Teal devoré zebra and cheetah frocks, sequin cheetah slip dresses, and devoré military green velvet paired with the house’s new palm tree camo made a statement. Additionally, a silver sequined interpretation of a classic Cavalli print wowed the audience. However, some felt that the black and white cotton lace pieces, although a Cavalli signature, may have been one story too many in this collection.
Puglisi’s approach to menswear centered around the ease of American sportswear. Silky camp-collar button-downs, printed shorts, wide tailored trousers, and dress shirts with unique twists, such as placed graphics or black ruffles, offered versatility and made a bold statement.
While Fausto Puglisi has dressed iconic stars like Madonna, Lizzo, Miley Cyrus, and Doja Cat, his recent headlines stem from his creation of memorable on-stage outfits for Taylor Swift’s ongoing The Eras Tour. The red snake jewelry featured throughout the lookbook pays homage to a Cavalli signature while subtly referencing Swift’s catsuit from the Reputation era—an Easter egg for her fans to discover.
Puglisi emphasized the dialogue that exists when dressing these megawatt celebrities, acknowledging their power and confidence in knowing exactly what they want. He applies the same philosophy when designing ready-to-wear, recognizing the boldness of the Cavalli woman, who stands just as tall as these superstars.
