AMIRI SS24 MENSWEAR
Mike Amiri’s ingenuity shines through in his latest collection. With an earnest approach to storytelling, he takes us on a transatlantic journey, as the Amiri character leaves his native California in search of a European summer. The destination? The picturesque south of France.
Amiri is no stranger to this narrative. As his brand’s presence grows in Paris, he wanted to bridge the gap between his growth and the man behind the evolving aesthetic. Backstage, he shared his thoughts: “I’ve been coming to Paris so much for shows, and our presence has really been growing here. I wanted to connect that growth to the man and his evolving aesthetic.”
The show unfolded amidst the beautiful surroundings of the Jardin des Plantes. Models traversed the gardens, making their way to a gravel runway with a central bar that hosted influencers and celebrities. The venue perfectly complemented Amiri’s seasonal story. Key highlights of the collection included shirts and long shorts crafted from woven leather, reminiscent of classic Parisian bistro chairs. Floral embellishments adorned tweedy pieces, with Amiri explaining, “Picture him walking through a garden and the flowers from trees are sticking on his shoulders.” The attention to detail extended to floral pins made from leftover fabrics, adding a touch of elegance.
Amiri drew inspiration from two distinct time periods: the ’50s and the ’90s. He expertly blended the tailored proportions of the former with the relaxed vibe of the latter. Particularly captivating were the tweeds transformed into relaxed shirt-and-shorts sets, and bouclés adorned with sparkling Swarovski crystals. A notable detail was leaving the lining fabric to hang off short legs, creating the impression that the Amiri man had expertly tailored his trousers.
The menswear landscape has shifted, with a departure from streetwear towards a fusion of jackets, shorts, and dressed-down tailoring. However, Amiri acknowledges that not every man is seeking a suit. Comfort is key. As he puts it, “You have to feel comfortable in whatever you wear. Even if fashion evolves, you yourself have to be able to wear it and not let it wear you.” Amiri’s latest collection captures the essence of a transatlantic adventure and showcases his commitment to creating fashion that is both aesthetically compelling and wearable for the modern man.
