Philipp Plein Resort 2024
Amidst the grandeur of the annual Film Festival in Cannes, Philipp Plein proudly introduced his extravagant creation, aptly named the Plein Circus. With his adorable son Rocket cradled in his arms, Plein exuded a sense of joy and anticipation as we stood just moments away from witnessing a stunning 15-look resort collection at his remarkable villa.
As we made our way through archways adorned with Hollywood lights and whimsical circus-themed cut-out letters, vibrant plumes of multicolor flowers intertwined with the lush green foliage. The runway, a glittering rainbow path, meandered through the villa’s pools and fountains, adding a touch of enchantment to the already surreal atmosphere of Plein’s haven, La Jungle du Roi. Interestingly, Plein even brought his designers from the atelier to his guest house, blurring the lines between work and inspiration for this collection.
“I’m a very colorful guy,” Plein remarked, describing the lineup as “happy, dressy, and costumey.” It was a spirited response to the post-pandemic desire for evening wear and cocktail dresses. While lighter and more energetic than his recent fall collection, which exuded moody rock glamour, this collection remained true to Plein’s proudly anti-minimalist ethos.
The models, adorned with jester-inspired makeup, gracefully showcased garments designed for movement and celebration. Among them was a daring jacket-and-skirt suit in fuchsia, featuring rhinestone pinstripe detailing, and a tangerine ruched minidress with shoulder pads, flawlessly paired with coruscating cowboy boots. Some silhouettes evoked the spirit of the 1970s, such as a feather-light paisley-print sheer number in pastel and cerulean blue, or another adorned entirely with pink and lilac diamantes. And, of course, Plein didn’t disappoint his fans who eagerly await his trademark hedonism. A neon tie-dye maxi dress, adorned with acid-house smileys, added an electric burst of energy to the show.
As the grand finale approached, Philipp Plein led the march, baby Rocket cradled lovingly in his arms. The vibrant sounds of Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine” filled the air, setting the perfect tone for the models to playfully wink and vamp. Even an unexpected runway crasher, who briefly stole the spotlight, couldn’t diminish Plein’s infectious smile or the overall exuberance of the moment.
In true Philipp Plein fashion, the Plein Circus dazzled and captivated, leaving a lasting impression of vivacity and unapologetic glamour. The collection was a testament to Plein’s ability to create fantastical worlds through fashion, where joy and expression reign supreme.
